laser training
Lasers are commonly used in a number of different sectors, such as medical, industrial and research. Aurora has therefore developed a number of different courses in laser safety to tailor for the various sectors.
Laser safety courses will initially focus on subjects such as the physical properties of the laser and how its unique properties make it such a precise instrument. How laser radiation interacts with matter and the biological effects of exposure to it will also be covered. Following on from this, training will focus on implementing control measures in order to reduce or control potential exposures to laser radiation and how these control measures can be managed.
For the medical sector, Aurora can provide training for clinical staff, Laser Protection Supervisors (LPSs) or Laser Safety Officers (LSOs). Aurora’s medical laser safety training courses are tailored so that they meet the requirements of the following:
• Private and Voluntary Health Care (England/Wales) Regulations 2001/2002.
• Standard IEC/TR 60825-8: 2006. Safety of Laser Products – Part 8: Guidelines for the safe use of laser beams on humans.
• Standard PD IEC/TR 60825-14: 2004. Safety of Laser Products – Part 14: A user’s guide.
• National Minimum Standards.
• MHRA: Guidance on the Safe Use of Lasers, Intense Light Source Systems and LEDs in Medical, Surgical, Dental and Aesthetic Practices DB2008 (03) April 2008.
