Experience


Allan has been a Director within Aurora since early 2003.

After graduating from Aberdeen University with a MSc in Medical Physics, Allan has been working in the radiation safety field since joining UKAEA in 1987 as a Health Physicist. Over the last 20 years he has worked for UKAEA on the Windscale and Harwell sites, AEA Technology and most recently he held the post of Head of the Health Physics Division of RWE NUKEM Ltd. He has extensive experience of radiation safety issues both from a technical and a commercial standpoint and from giving advice to managing large teams of radiation safety professionals. He was also a key member of the team that invented the design council award winning technology Groundhog (copyrighted), an innovative method for surveying large areas of land for radioactive material using Global Positioning Technology, highly sensitive detection equipment and Geographical Interface Systems.

Throughout his career he has gained significant experience of monitoring for radioactive materials in a variety of environments and facilities. He has particular knowledge of monitoring large areas of land and beaches and was intrinsically involved in the beach monitoring programmes in and around the Dounreay site.

Allan brings to the team practical and pragmatic experience of radiological monitoring methodologies in difficult environments.
